The Rivalry of Servers
Between 2012 and 2014, the Garry's Mod and Minecraft server communities were thriving, bustling digital playgrounds where players connected, collaborated, and competed. Two giants stood out among the crowd: Magic Cat Server and SPKZ Servers. Both offered popular game modes such as DarkRP, TTT (Trouble in Terrorist Town), and Minecraft, attracting the same target audience of dedicated gamers who were always on the hunt for quality servers.
But as with any shared audience, competition was inevitable. What began as a subtle rivalry over player counts quickly escalated into a full-blown conflict between the two server admin teams.
- SPKZ Servers, often dubbed the "communist powerhouse," prided itself on having staff members online 24/7. Their all-hands-on-deck approach ensured constant moderation, stability, and active communication with players.
- Magic Cat Server, on the other hand, operated like a "capitalist innovator." They invested in paid plugins and premium addons, leading to a smoother, more polished user experience that kept players coming back.
Both approaches had their strengths, but the conflict brewed in the background. Admins from both sides were quick to throw shade, fight over shared player bases, and occasionally wage "server raids" (an unofficial term for flooding each other's servers). The tension between SPKZ's ever-present moderation and Magic Cat's streamlined gameplay was palpable.
MoNoRi-Chan's Proposal: A Treaty of Peace
Amidst the heated rivalry, MoNoRi-Chan, the pragmatic admin of SPKZ Servers, saw an opportunity for something greater. Tired of the infighting and the constant battle for players, MoNoRi-Chan reached out to Scotty, the charismatic Owner and Lead Developer of Magic Cat Server.
The two admins realized something critical:
“Our players aren't choosing sides because of us—they just want a good server experience.”
And so, in the Winter of 2014, after weeks of negotiation and late-night Discord meetings, a historic decision was made: the Magic Cat–SPKZ Peace Treaty.
The Terms of the Treaty
Under this treaty, both server communities agreed to:
- Share Resources: Paid plugins and custom scripts developed by Magic Cat would be shared with SPKZ Servers. In return, SPKZ’s moderation resources and server guides would be offered to Magic Cat Server.
- Joint Staff Roles: Staff members from one server would gain admin privileges on the other. This would ensure constant moderation and a united front against cheaters and trolls.
- Cross-Promotion: Both servers would promote each other’s events and game modes, fostering cooperation rather than competition.
The treaty symbolized a unique partnership where competition transformed into collaboration. Player counts began to stabilize across both servers, and admins who once viewed each other as enemies found common ground.
A Legacy of Friendship
While the servers flourished under the treaty for some time, the gaming landscape evolved. By 2015, both servers eventually ceased operations as their owners pursued new paths in life.
- Scotty, the mastermind behind Magic Cat Server's polished gameplay, took his Lua programming skills (honed from developing Garry's Mod addons) and transitioned into the world of FiveM development. There, he continued to build and innovate, applying his expertise to create custom content for GTA V roleplay servers.
- MoNoRi-Chan, ever the entrepreneurial spirit, turned his attention to Forex and Cryptocurrency trading, where he explored decentralized finance and market opportunities.
Though their servers went offline, the bond forged during the 2014 Winter Peace Treaty remained strong. The two server owners became friends—a testament to the power of collaboration over competition.
The Treaty’s Legacy in the Digital Age
To this day, the Magic Cat–SPKZ Peace Treaty remains a symbol of what can happen when rivals come together for a greater purpose. It’s a story of digital diplomacy, where two opposing philosophies—constant moderation (SPKZ) and capitalist convenience (Magic Cat)—found harmony.
In an era where communities often tear each other apart over small differences, the treaty serves as a reminder:
It’s not about who wins the competition—it’s about building something worthwhile together.
Even though the servers have been shut down and their players scattered to new virtual worlds, the treaty lives on in the shared memories of those who were there. And if you ask Scotty or MoNoRi-Chan about the old days, they’ll likely smile and say:
“We fought hard, but we ended as friends.”
The Peace Treaty may have started as a resolution to conflict, but it became something far more meaningful: the start of a lifelong friendship built on respect, innovation, and a shared love for gaming.
The Magic Cat–SPKZ story may be over, but its spirit lives on.
