Ingress/Timing
Timing is Everything: Mastering the Art of Temporal Domination in Ingress
In Ingress, victory isn't just about raw power or fancy mods. It's about timing your attacks and defenses with strategic brilliance. This article explores two insightful comments that highlight the importance of using temporal awareness and spatial intelligence to dominate your local Ingress landscape.
The Territorial Time Lord:
Not so much of a prank but taking advantage of my area. I've got about 4 portals around my neighborhood that make up a nice potential spine of a BAF if somebody wanted to. I've seen about 5 different people now what have sworn to make that area blue, only to have quit after I'm done messing with them. The moment I see an attack notification on a neighborhood/nearby portal I get on my bike and head over there. Takes me about 2-3 minutes. Anyways, I always wait for them to drive out of the neighborhood before retaking the portals so that they have to attempt a U-turn on a very annoying and always congested road. So one time somebody wanted to make my own neighborhood part of his BAF. Bad idea. He attempted to make it about 6 times on a Saturday before he realized there was no chance that that field was going to happen. I'd always make a mini field with three portals in the neighborhood that he'd have to take out in order to complete the field. He ended up making a larger, single layer field with a defiant mini green field in the middle of it at 4 in the morning while I slept soundly :) Another player has a massive gas-guzzling truck that will go on all-night rampages if his home portals get taken out. Lucky for me, that area is on my way home! What costs me nothing must have cost this guy hundreds of dollars in gas over the course of the 2 years I have been messing with him.
The first comment details an agent's mastery of their neighborhood terrain. Here's how this translates into strategic timing:
- Fast Response: Knowing the attack notifications for his local portals allows for a swift response time. Their 2-3 minute bike advantage is a huge tactical advantage against car-dependent opponents.
- The U-Turn of Doom: Waiting for the enemy agent to leave the neighborhood before retaking portals is a psychological warfare tactic. That forced U-turn on a congested road wastes their time and morale.
- Mini-Field Disruption: Creating mini-fields that disrupt enemy BAF plans forces them to waste time and resources recapturing portals before proceeding.
The Mountain Master:
Not so much a prank as much as a "you dont own this area anymore". The local level 16 smurf is quite dangerously overweight so me being somewhat in shape / not overweight, after i hit lvl 8 i started looking for hiker portals that this guy wouldnt touch. Found one that he rarely touches. Its less then a half hour my house to the portal driving and hiking. Cant be cargressed and is on a mountain that is pretty unsafe at night time. I farmed keys for it many many times and now keep about a quantum and a half full at all times (well over 100). Whenever he goes up im there and reclaim it before he gets down and goes to make blocking links. The same asshat tried to VR shield stuff when i was level 2 after i captured it. Ive slowly been expanding my area of influence and now block him from doing anything to the south of him. Level 16 but cant do anything about an opponent whose smarter then he. Always take into account the physical attributes of an opponent to beat them.
The second comment showcases the power of spatial intelligence:
- Identifying Weaknesses: The agent recognized the opponent's physical limitations and exploited them. The mountaintop portal was inaccessible to their overweight adversary.
- Key Farming: By patiently farming keys for this portal, they ensured they were always prepared to recapture it when the opponent made an attempt.
- Nighttime Advantage: The mountain's danger at night further discouraged the opponent from repeated attacks. The agent could comfortably maintain control knowing their adversary wouldn't venture up after dark.
The Takeaway: Time and Space: Your Ultimate Weapons
These comments demonstrate how Ingress agents can leverage timing and spatial awareness to gain a significant advantage. Here are some additional tips:
- Analyze Opponent Patterns: Learn your opponent's attack habits and adjust your defense strategy accordingly.
- Weather Warriors: Use real-world factors like weather to your advantage. Maybe a sudden downpour discourages an opponent from attacking your outdoor portal.
- Clock Tower Tactics: Coordinate attacks with your teammates during specific time windows when the opponent is less likely to respond quickly.
By mastering the art of temporal domination and spatial intelligence, you can transform yourself from a passive Ingress player into a cunning strategist who controls the flow of the game on your turf. So, the next time you see an enemy agent approaching, remember – it's not just about your XM levels or weaponry, it's about using timing and terrain to your advantage and claim victory in the ever-evolving battlefield of Ingress!
