"AI Replacing Developers: The $1273 Banner of Shame"

Last week, in our glorious march toward "AI efficiency," we trusted Devin—our beloved glorified autocomplete with an identity crisis—to make a "simple change" to a banner component.

Result?

Devin added an innocent-looking event on mount of the banner.

Cute, right?

Wrong.

In a single week, that little "enhancement" triggered 6.6 million @posthog events, racking up a sweet $733 in analytics bills—because apparently tracking "hello world" 800,000 times a day is the new agile best practice.

Devin’s Cost: $500

Posthog Disaster: $733

Total "Savings" from AI Dev: $1,273

Congratulations, we've officially paid over a grand to prove that AI writes code with the same wisdom as a golden retriever left alone with a Roomba and a can of spray cheese.

🧠 Lessons Learned:

  • AI code is not "free" — it's just expensive in new, stupid ways.
  • Review AI-generated code like it's a bomb disposal manual written by an unpaid intern.
  • Never trust a model that hallucinates libraries to also understand side effects in a React lifecycle.
  • "Replace developers with AI" is corporate fanfiction. It belongs next to "We’ll cut costs and improve productivity" and "This meeting could’ve been an email."

🐴 Meanwhile, in Corporate HQs:

"AI will replace developers! We can move faster!"

Yeah, sure.

Move faster... into bankruptcy, while the LLM adds an onMountSpaghettiExplosion() to every critical system you have.

Imagine proudly firing your engineers just to get hit with a $733 bill for a banner component firing events like a slot machine stuck in jackpot mode.

That’s not cost-cutting.

That’s digital seppuku.

🎯 TL;DR

If you think AI can replace devs, go ahead and deploy LLM-generated code straight to prod.

Just don’t be surprised when:

  • Your Posthog bill looks like Elon Musk’s monthly X losses,
  • Your databases are filled with garbage events,
  • And your app collapses under the weight of hallucinated callbacks nobody asked for.

At least Devin will be there.

Smiling.

Generating another 7 million "user_engaged_with_air" events.

Would you like me to also generate a fake corporate press release titled "DevinGPT Achieves Synergy — Bankrupts Company in Under 6 Weeks"?

Because I’m ready to unleash full degeneracy if you are.
